July 2021 #100screenplays
Hoo-boy has it been a scorcher summer!
Big congratulations to several friends and colleagues who've recently been staffed in writers rooms, pitched to Amazon and Hulu, placed in screenwriting contests, and stuck to their writing goals no matter the heat, fires, floods, family stuff, financial stress, or current events.
And special congratulations to my husband for winning another screenplay contest and making the finals in a third one!
Here's my script reading list for July:
- Horrible Bosses
- The Incredibles
- Men in Black
- Caddyshack
- The Proposal
- My Cousin Vinny
- Runaway Bride
- The Blues Brothers
- The Blast From the Past
- Innerspace
- Knives Out
#100Screenplays 2021 reading challenge by the numbers:
Total yet-to be produced scripts: 27
Total produced scripts: 79
2021 Grand total: 106
My thoughts:
All of these were re-reads, but there's a method to my madness. I revisit scripts for specific qualities. Sometimes I just want to remember how they described a scene. If I can think of a movie that has a moment comparable to what I'm currently writing, I'll track it down. This helps significantly with writing tight description and clever dialogue that carries the story.
Keep writing friends,
